OK, I just played for an hour or so. I don’t think I’ve explored it enough to make an definite statements, but I will say how I feel about it thus far...
Well, it’s not the book. The plot is close, but it has no real depth. Essentially, AURYN has been stolen, and you, Atreyu, are the only one who can bring it back. The Nothing is destroying Fantasia, and all the Childlike Empress can do is sit back and watch. There are only a few worlds left now (great concept!,) so you must explore them all and find AURYN! The first world if the Mountain of Destiny, which actually is from the book! It is the mountain that the Childlike Empress journeys to to find the Wandering Mountain. She discover it atop of the Mountain of Destiny, which is the highest peak in Fantasia as I recall, and always covered with snow. Well, this Mountain isn’t snowy; it’s more rocky and barren. It still looks awesome though, as has everything I’ve seen so far! The game has a very surreal feel to it, which I like. I know that it would be close to impossible to translate the book into a game, so from what I’ve seen, I think that AURYN Quest has done as good a job as possible!

hrmm....okay, I've got a few Q's for ya.
1) How does the game play? Is it more of an everquest type rpg or 1st person shooter type game?
2) How do the characters (especially Atreyu) look in the game? Were the models done fairly well?
3) From what you've seen, would you recommend all of us to buy the game? I'm still rather curious to see it.
4) Is this game multiplayer at all?
heh, okay, enough for now. Those were some key questions I wanted to know about before I went out and bought the game. I do hope you enjoy it though!

Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and wrong, because sometime in your life you will be all of these.

More than happy to answer!
1) How does the game play? Is it more of an everquest type rpg or 1st person shooter type game?
-I'm not a big gamer, but I think it's first person so it's like your seeing through the eyes of the character, right? There's no weapons or anything so far though. Not even an enemy! It's just a go-look-for-stuff game so far.
2) How do the characters (especially Atreyu) look in the game? Were the models done fairly well?
-So far, I've only seen Atreyu during the opening sequence where the plot is established. He looks about 25, and has a goatee, plus he's wearing some blue and black suit thing. He's looks NOTHING like any TNES character! The Childlike Empress looks about 7, with bright yellow hair in pig tails and blue eyes! (How could they???!!!) I've also seen the Rock Biter, and he looks good at least. I think you can see screenshots of most of these characters at http://www.aurynquest.com
3) From what you've seen, would you recommend all of us to buy the game? I'm still rather curious to see it.
-Yeah, it seems like a great game to me, even if its not close to the book! The worlds are really interesting, and the graphics are amazing (at least they are to me, because I've never played a computer game before, and the only games I have are for N64!) The Ivory Tower is really awesome, I think its worth it just to see that.
4) Is this game multiplayer at all?
-I don't think so.

They gave our poor Empress pig-tails??!! What have they done to Atreyu?! The Auryn was stolen? Were these people reading the same book we are? They must have read the ultra-conservative, tiny-weenie, mega-abridged Cliff-pamplet, about the super-condenced Cliff-notes (translated from Hungarian), about the movie based on the novel by Ende, which was translated from ancient Babalonian by the esteemed talent of Miss Mary-Beth's 2nd grade Crayon-Time Color Fun-Fun hour.
Okay, that was perhaps much too sarcastic. Sorry (PIGTAILS!!!??? I need a moment...)
Well, that's creative licence for you. Anyway, thankyou so much for being brave and trying this game first, so we could all find out about it. It still sounds like a pretty cool game, though, just on it's own. Keep us updated on how it's coming along! Have you seen Morla, or my favorite, the Racing Snail?

Yeah, the Empress looks pretty awful! There's a picture on the site, she looks nothing like herself. But maybe her voice is right?
On the upside, the game is available on amazon.com American-- $20, cheap for a newly released game.

I've tried the game too, I like it, it's a sorta classic platform game only in 3d. Very nice grafics and music!! and I like the way that the nothing has "eaten" away things - parts of the earth missing, things haning in the air and stuff, kinda like I imagined it from the book...

Well they completely failed at their portrayals of Atreyu and the Childlike Empress, but as a die-hard NES fan, I'm probably gonna' end up playing it anyway.

Re: Just got AURYN Quest!
I bought it the day it was released.
I played it.
I finished it.
It was AWFUL!
Very boring. Clunky controls. Totally amateur.
I remember when they were originally designing a came called "The REAL Neverending Story" . . . what an embarrassment that not only is this game nothing like the interesting one they were originally designing, it's so pathetically awful.
